You as part of tonies:

Reporting directly to our COO, the Director of Global Quality (all genders) will define and execute our global quality strategy, ensuring that Tonies products - including toys, consumer electronics, IoT-enabled devices, firmware, and digital services - consistently meet the highest standards of safety, compliance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

This role spans the entire value chain - from raw materials and tier-1 suppliers through in-house and outsourced operations to final customer delivery - ensuring compliance with international regulatory frameworks, toy safety standards, and consumer electronics directives.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
Strategic Leadership & Governance
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global quality strategy, aligning with corporate objectives and international regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the executive owner of Quality Management Systems (QMS), ensuring alignment with ISO 9001 and industry-specific standards.
  • Champion a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across global operations.
Quality Management System (QMS) Development
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve Tonies’ global QMS covering product design, manufacturing, software/firmware development, and digital services.
  • Requirement management: Develop and implement requirement management for all aspects of tonies products (technical requirements as well as ESG requirements).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry norms, including ISO 9001
Product Quality & Safety Assurance
  • Establish and enforce rigorous quality control processes, inspection protocols, and defect analysis for toys and consumer electronics.
  • Ensure compliance with international toy and electronic safety standards, including:
    • Directive 2009/48/EC on the Safety of Toys
    • ASTM F963 (U.S. Toy Safety Standard)
    • REACH & RoHS (chemical and hazardous substance compliance)
    • CE, UKCA, FCC, UL, and CCC certifications for electronics
    • IEC 62368-1 (Safety of Audio/Video, IT, and Communication Technology Equipment)
    • Packaging Directive 94/62/EC
  • Oversee product testing for mechanical, chemical, electrical, and cybersecurity safety.
Supplier Quality Management
  • Lead supplier qualification, audits, and performance management, ensuring compliance with safety, ethical sourcing, and ESG requirements.
  • Implement global quality agreements and risk assessments with contract manufacturers and third-party labs.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure global adherence to EU Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC, U.S. CPSC requirements, and other market-specific regulations incl. licensors requirements (FAMA, etc.)
  • Oversee documentation of conformity assessments, technical files, and safety certifications.
Customer Focus & Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor customer returns, complaints, and product performance data to drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Lead root cause analyses and implement Lean, Six Sigma, and TQM practices to ensure operational excellence.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance customer trust and brand reputation.
Leadership & Reporting
  • Lead and develop a global quality team with regional coverage across suppliers, manufacturing sites, and markets.
  • Manage the global quality budget, resource allocation, and performance reporting.
  • Provide regular executive-level reports on product quality trends, risks, and improvement initiatives.
What we are looking for:
  • Master’s degree in engineering, quality management, or a related technical/industrial field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in quality management, including at least 5 years in a leadership role within the toy, consumer electronics, or related industries.
  • Proven expertise in international regulatory compliance, product safety, and global certification processes.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing and scaling global QMS across multi-product and multi-country operations.
  • Strong leadership with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop diverse global teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of international toy safety and consumer electronics standards.
  • Proficiency in Six Sigma, Lean, TQM methodologies, and supplier quality management.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (German is a strong advantage).
  • Enthusiasm for Tonies, our products, and our mission to bring safe, high-quality experiences to families worldwide.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed.
