You as part of tonies:
As Value Engineering Manager (all genders) you are the key technical partner within the Global Procurement organization, focused on bringing fact-based engineering insights, should-cost transparency, and data-driven decision support into sourcing and product cost optimization.

Working in close collaboration with Product Development, Quality, Product Industrialization, Global Production, Finance, and our global supplier network, this role ensures that tonies® maintains a competitive cost structure while upholding our high standards for design, safety, and customer value.

You provide expert support to Design-to-Value (DtV) and Design-to-Cost (DtC) initiatives, identify process efficiency opportunities at suppliers, and act as a technically knowledgeable counterpart during commercial negotiations. This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration and a willingness to travel to suppliers globally.
Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Develop detailed should-cost models (cleansheet) for mechanical, electronic, and packaging components.
  • Analyze supplier quotations and identify cost drivers, gaps, and improvement potential.
  • Provide fact-based cost insights to support Procurement in negotiations.
  • Support DtC and DtV activities with cost transparency and engineering input.
  • Evaluate alternative materials, designs, and processes proposed by cross-functional teams for cost and value impact.
  • Work closely with Product Development, Quality, Product Industrialization, Global Production, and Finance to align on cost targets.
  • Support teams in on-site supplier assessments to validate processes, labor assumptions, and cost structures
  • Identify cost impact driven through efficiency and process improvement opportunities at suppliers together with the Global Production department
  • Maintain benchmarking data for materials, labor rates, and manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate cost findings clearly and drive cross-functional discussions on cost-optimization opportunities.
What we are looking for:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years in value engineering, cost engineering, product cost management, or technical procurement—preferably in consumer electronics, toys, or hardware manufacturing.
  • Deep understanding of key manufacturing processes and markets: injection molding, die casting, PCBA, SMT, mechanical assembly, packaging, etc.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and experience developing should-cost models.
  • Comfortable working on-site with suppliers, including manufacturing floor evaluations.
  • Excellent communication skills (English and preferably German) and ability to challenge suppliers constructively.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed and to work in a hybrid setup with 2–3 on-site days per week in Düsseldorf.
