You as part of tonies:
We are seeking an experienced Linux System Engineer (all genders) to design, implement, and maintain robust infrastructure for our global Tonie and Toniebox manufacturing operations. In this role, you'll ensure 24/7 system reliability, automate repetitive processes using tools like Ansible to enhance efficiency and reduce human error, and optimize performance across on-premise and AWS environments. You'll also establish comprehensive monitoring, logging, alerting, and distributed tracing to ensure system observability and swiftly address issues. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll help shape system architecture, establish best practices, and ensure security and compliance. This is your opportunity to make a direct impact on the technology powering the production of Tonieboxes and Tonies for millions of little listeners worldwide.
Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Design and implement infrastructure and networking solutions for production systems in both on-premise and AWS environments
  • Develop infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and SREs on observability, redundancy, and backup, as well as security and compliance topics.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting across time zones with production and engineering teams.
  • Contribute to system design and architecture decisions for production systems, ensuring performance.
  • Support the reliability of globally distributed production systems by coordinating across German and Asian time zones. You will work in regular, aligned working hours with the team, with no on-call requirement.
  • Keep infrastructure documentation up to date and aligned with best practices.
What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • Expert-level Linux system administration, with a focus on Debian /Ubuntu and embedded Linux distributions like OpenWrt and OpenSens
  • Strong expertise in infrastructure automation and configuration management (e.g., Ansible)
  • Experience operating and optimizing hybrid production environments (on-premise and AWS)
  • Strong expertise in networking and security (TCP/IP, VPN, routing, firewalls, system hardening) combined with solid skills in diagnosing and debugging network issues using tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, nmap, or iperf.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, logging, and observability solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Jaeger)
  • Proven ability to design, debug, and maintain highly available and scalable infrastructure systems
  • Experience with disaster recovery strategies and backup systems
  • Strong scripting skills in Shell (Bash) and Python for automation
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with international, cross-functional teams
